Just F-ing Nasty

By now, I'm sure you've heard of that creepy polygamist sect in West Texas where authorities recently removed over 400 children after a teenage girl made secret cell phone calls to a battered women's shelter. Sadly, authorities are supposedly unable to figure out just where that particular girl is now, because her name isn't on the list of those currently in protective custody. I can only hope that they're really just trying to hide her for her own protection. Another 140 or so women voluntarily left the compound & are being housed with the children.

The current gross, disturbing discovery in this story is this...During their search of the compound, authorities recently found some kind of ritualistic marriage bed IN THE CHURCH. Apparently the creepy old men just couldn't wait until they got home before they deflowered their juvenile brides.

It's bad enough that this group exists at all, but that they're doing it in the name of Christ makes it even worse. It frightens me to think of what else goes on behind church doors that we don't know about yet. More fodder for those not in favor of organized religion. Can't we all just have a covered dish supper & get along?

What annoys the crap out of me is how the reporters refuse to call it what it is -- rape. It's like rape is a dirty word or something. They'll use every euphemism under the sun to keep from calling a spade a spade. Those dirty old men were raping 12 and 13 year olds. Rape.

Religion is one of the greatest evils of the world. Universally formulated across churches, sects, beliefs to keep women enslaved.

Since this is your last post this is the one I'm going to leave my comment on so I'm really not commenting about the issues of your post.

Love your blog!! It reminds me of our Challenge Walk training walk conversations and boy do I miss those training walks. I have a friend who is a runner but like you, suffered an injury in September so she's just now able to get back into it. You know me, I don't run. I started training for my upcoming Half-Marathon using Hal Higdon's 30 day guide to becoming a runner. I have pretty much been on the treadmill every day since the end of February and have completed two 5K's.

The first 5K was with my running friend and I finished 1 minute before her in 37:01 minutes. Pretty slow but that course was rough (very hilly & windy). That one we did as a run/walk. I went to the second 5K by myself with the intent to only walk. There was a walkers category so there were a few walkers, unlike the first race which was only runners. During the race I chatted with this lovely woman and had a great time. She does a walking marathon for breast cancer. I finished that race in 37:25 and got the prize for 1st Place Walker. With all that said, I'm not sure how much running I will be doing for this next Half. I feel like you and I had a pretty good time in the 2003 Half in VA - I'd like to beat that time but I'm not sure running the entire Half is the answer. We'll see as my training progresses.

While you're pedaling your fat ass off I'm going to be walking my fat ass off!!

I miss you and your fun conversations (and Noland Trail)! Keep up the good work and I'll check in often.
